The mind-body connection is simple: our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and attitudes can positively or negatively affect our biological functioning. In other words, our minds can affect how healthy our bodies are!

How you think about things can affect how you feel. That's something we all know, but science has only recently proven it. For example, take the way you breathe. If you're stressed out and hyperventilating, your body will react by sending more stress hormones into your bloodstream—and the more stressed you are, the more likely you are to keep breathing too fast. But if you slow down your breathing by practicing mindfulness techniques like meditation or even taking deep breaths when you start feeling anxious, your brain will get all those extra stress hormones out of your system before they can cause damage.
This is just one example of how thinking differently can change how we feel and act in the world—but there are many more. And now that we know how powerful our minds indeed are, research has begun investigating how we can use them to help us overcome some of life's biggest challenges: stress at work; anxiety over finances; depression caused by trauma or hardship; even addiction!
