Why you should follow this program

Negotiation is not just an art practiced in boardrooms and trade agreements; it's a fundamental skill we use daily. Whether we're aware of it or not, each of us engages in negotiations regularly. From high-stakes corporate deals and job promotions to everyday decisions like allocating household chores or choosing whether to take on extra responsibilities at work, our ability to negotiate effectively impacts every aspect of our lives.

This training program is designed to underscore the universality of negotiation and its significance across all spectrums of life. It brings to light the often-overlooked truth: we are always negotiating. The stakes might vary, but the foundational skills remain the same.

Negotiation influences our interactions, our relationships, and our ability to achieve our goals. By understanding and improving your negotiation skills, you open the door to more effective communication, better relationships, and increased success in all areas of life. Whether you're looking to improve your professional standing, enhance your interpersonal dynamics, or simply make more informed decisions, mastering the art of negotiation is an invaluable step toward a more fulfilling life.

Mastering Preparation For Negotiation

In our program, participants will delve deep into the crucial phase of preparing for a negotiation. This involves a strategic approach using Ziff's Principle, which emphasizes taking initiative in doing the legwork for a negotiation, giving you an extra edge by creating opportunities to influence the course of the negotiation. Additionally, you'll become skilled at calculating your Best Alternative To a Negotiated Agreement (BATNA) and the Zone of Possible Agreement (ZOPA), tools that are vital for understanding your negotiating position and the scope within which an agreement can be reached. This preparation sets the stage for successful negotiation, giving you the confidence and clarity needed to navigate complex discussions.

Ensuring Fairness with Principled Negotiation

The heart of our training program focuses on principled negotiation, a method that ensures fairness and mutual satisfaction in any negotiation scenario. Participants learn to identify the core object of negotiation, using it as a pivot to steer discussions to their advantage while expanding the potential deal. This approach is about separating the people from the problem, focusing on interests rather than positions, and insisting on objective criteria. By the end of this module, you'll be equipped to approach negotiations not as zero-sum games, but as opportunities for creative problem-solving that benefit all parties involved.

Communication Techniques for Tactical Empathy

Our curriculum introduces participants to 9 innovative communication techniques, drawing on the expertise of renowned negotiators like Chris Voss. These techniques are designed to apply tactical empathy, ensuring that you can maintain open, constructive communication even under the pressure of tough conversations. From active listening to mirroring and labeling, these tools are pivotal in keeping the negotiation process forward-moving and connected, allowing for a deeper understanding and resolution of the underlying issues. Through practical exercises, participants will learn to harness these techniques, turning potential conflicts into opportunities for agreement.

Personal and Professional Transformation

Beyond the boardroom, the principles and techniques taught in our negotiation skills program have profound implications for personal life and relationships. As participants integrate these strategies into their daily interactions, they experience a transformation in how they communicate, make decisions, and empathize with others. This not only enhances their effectiveness in professional negotiations but also enriches their personal relationships, leading to more fulfilling interactions and stronger connections. By bridging the gap between professional expertise and personal growth, our program empowers individuals to become more influential and empathetic negotiators in all areas of life.

Meet your trainer

At the kickstart of your 3-6 week skills development program, you will follow a webinar delivered by Sarah Cherif, founder and CEO of SkillsGym. Here are a few things you might like to know about her:

Sarah's background

Sarah began her career at the University of Ghent with degrees in child education and philosophy, quickly realizing her passion for teaching. Faced with the challenge of helping seasoned leaders develop soft skills without any prior corporate experience, she turned this disadvantage into a strength by creating evidence-based, sure-proof plans to build strong soft skills through habit formation and impactful conversations.

Personal life

Sarah's roots are Belgian and Tunesian, and she partially grew up in Washington DC. She currently lives in Belgium with her partner Nils (who is co-founder of SkillsGym Health), and has a dog named Lizzy.

20+ years of impact

Together with her SkillsGym team, Sarah has helped numerous world-class organizations like Samsung, Deloitte, Ikea... and thousands of managers and their teams improve their soft skills. SkillsGym now offers programs to accelerate the mastery of 50 essential leadership, team and well-being skills.

Fun fact

Sarah tests all the habits and conversations in the SkillsGym offer herself; that's more than 200+ habits and 200+ conversations. Most of them have become second nature. Yet, as you'll learn in the webinars, she isn't shy to talk about the failures and frustrations along the way.
